Fabrizio Romano says he’s heard something different about Federico Chiesa and Barcelona after Liverpool links

With just days remaining of the summer transfer window, it seems as if Liverpool could still deliver the signing of Italian winger Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa has been linked with Liverpool all summer, however, reports seemed more hopeful than authoritative at times.

However, it’s now been reliably shared that Liverpool want Chiesa, they’re willing to go toe-to-toe with Barcelona to sign the wantaway Juventus star.

It would seem as if Arne Slot has decided that he’s still one forward short after Liverpool’s opening two league wins, when the likes of Luis Diaz have starred.

However, when you look at Liverpool’s bench from Sunday, it does lack an out-and-out winger, even if Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez are superb talents in their own right.

But Liverpool could still benefit from the arrival of a left-footed magician, someone who can perform a stellar impression of Mohamed Salah on the right.

That being said, when speaking via Playback, Fabrizio Romano has just shared some encouraging news for Liverpool fans on Barcelona’s interest.

Barcelona haven’t submitted bid for Liverpool target Federico Chiesa despite reports

As mentioned, Barcelona are also very keen to sign Chiesa this week, who is available at heavily reduced price.

And despite some sources claiming that Chiesa was almost a Barcelona player, Romano has confirmed a deal was never ‘done’ and the Catalan side haven’t actually tabled a bid yet.

Romano explained: “Between Barcelona and Chiesa we have many stories, updates and rumours in the recent days; so many saying the deal was almost done.

“The deal was not done, as Barca never presented an official bid.

“The player was keen on a move to Barca after discussing with them, but Barca never presented an official bid to Juventus, also because of the FFP issues.

“Interest from Barca remains, but no bid on the table.”

Of course, with all considered it does seem as if Chiesa’s situation is perfectly poised for Liverpool to steal in.

Richard Hughes and his side definitely have the financial muscle to execute a deal, and may currently be working very hard to do so behind the scenes.

That being said, Chiesa has made it clear who he’d prefer to join this summer – a potential stumbling block for Liverpool.
