Fabrizio Romano says Everton tried to ‘sign’ Joshua Zirkzee, but Parma have agreed deal

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that while Everton tried to sign Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee, Italian side Parma have completed a loan move for the 19-year-old striker – posting his trademark “here we go” on Twitter.

Zirkzee has been linked with Everton for much of the transfer window, as Everton look to bring in cover for Dom Calvert-Lewin. The race is hotting up for Cenk Tosun, with Celta Vigo, Besiktas, West Brom and plenty more supposedly interested.

The Netherlands Under-21 international has clocked up 17 appearances for Bayern’s first team, scoring first goals but clearly he needs game time to further his development. Everton wanted the Dutch attacker and have tried to sign him.

That is according to transfer expert Romano, who has covered Parma and Everton’s pursuit of the Bayern striker over the past few weeks. He claims that while Everton made their move, Parma have now agreed a move to sign Zirkzee.

TBR’s view – Everton still need a striker

Clearly, it has not worked out for Tosun. If the Turkish striker is to salvage his career, he needs to leave Everton before the end of the January window – at least on loan. So, Everton need a replacement and Zirkzee would have been a decent option.

But the Toffees cannot rest on their laurels. They need to look elsewhere immediately and with just three days left in the window, Marcel Brands has got to work quickly to bring in competition for Everton’s England ace up top.
