Fabrizio Romano says Cody Gakpo wants to join Manchester United, not Arsenal
Arsenal, Manchester United and a bunch of other clubs have been linked with a move to sign PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo over the last few months.
The Dutchman is one of the finest talents of his age in Europe at the moment. He has been brilliant for club and country, and his performances at the World Cup made him even more of a wanted man than he already was.
Romano has now shared the latest on his future.
Fabrizio Romano says Cody Gakpo wants to join Manchester United, not Arsenal
Gakpo has arguably been the best player in the Eredivisie for over a year now. His performances since the start of this season, however, have been on another level.
The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions for PSV, while he managed three goals in five appearances for the Netherlands at the World Cup as well.
Those are outrageous numbers for someone so young, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves PSV to join a much bigger club in one of Europe’s top-five leagues.
Arsenal and Manchester United have both been heavily linked with a move to sign Gakpo for months now, and Romano has revealed that the Dutchman has made up his mind about his next club.
The journalist tweeted: “Cody Gakpo hasn’t changed his mind on Manchester United. He was keen on joining last summer and this is still the case, discussions with his agents have always been positive.
“It’s on Man United now, time to decide internally about €55m-€60m (£48m- £53m) investment.”
TBR View:
Whoever ends up getting Gakpo will benefit immensely for years.
The Dutchman, branded as a ‘brilliant’ player, can play anywhere across the front three and also as a number 10. He can score goals, create chances and the fact that he’s still only 23 means he will only get better in the coming years.
Arsenal, who are on the lookout for a versatile forward, would’ve been a great club for Gakpo, where he’d fit in really well with all the other exciting young players available at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.
However, it looks like his heart is set on a move to Old Trafford now.
