'Both Chelsea and Tottenham': Fabrizio Romano says Mikel Arteta faces big competition for £75m man

Arsenal will have to beat off competition from Tottenham and Chelsea if they want to sign Leeds United winger, Raphinha, this summer.

That’s the latest from Fabrizio Romano anyway, who has taken to Twitter this afternoon to deliver what he believes is the very latest on Raphinha’s situation. Romano, who is known for his inside knowledge on transfers around the world, believes that both Chelsea and Tottenham have spoken about signing Raphinha.

He claims that Arsenal have been in direct negotiations with the winger since March, while Barcelona also agreed a fee with Leeds, albeit their interest seems to be waning now. Romano also suggests that the fee for Raphinha could go as high as £75m – although there is no clarification from Romano if he means Euros or pounds there.

Reports over the weekend had claimed that Arsenal were pushing on with trying to sign Raphinha now they’d done a deal to bring Fabio Vieira over.

The Brazilian was once again instrumental for Leeds last season as they narrowly avoided relegation. He has made his impression for Brazil, too, and is widely tipped to feature for the Samba Stars in Qatar this winter.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Need To Push To Get Raphinha Deal Done

The sheer interest from other clubs seems to be pushing things on here. Arsenal are said to be closer than anyone to signing Raphinha and it’s easy to see why.

With Chelsea and Tottenham both sniffing around, there is no time for the Gunners to mess about. If they want Raphinha signed, they need to act now and get the deal done. No messing. No hesitation.

Raphinha would excel at any of these clubs mentioned, such is his talent. For Arsenal, he gives them a huge new threat out wide, and increases Mikel Arteta’s options massively.
