Aston Villa are turning out to be one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the latter stages of the January transfer window.

No fewer than three new players are now expected to arrive at Villa Park ahead of the window shutting on Thursday 1 February.

The Villans have reportedly signed – or are edging closer to signing – Morgan Rogers, Lino Sousa and Joe Gauci.

Just before 3pm on Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Villa’s pursuit of the latter, who is set to join from Adelaide United.

The transfer insider took to X to claim that Villa have completed the deal to sign Gauci from Adelaide for a €1.5million (£1.3million) fee plus add-ons.

The 23-year-old Australia international goalkeeper will pen a contract at Villa Park until June 2028, and his medical has already been completed.

“Gauci and Lino Sousa are the final signings for Villa,” concluded Romano. “Morgan Rogers set to sign the contract today.”

Aston Villa making signings for the present and the future

Aston Villa have enjoyed a superb season on and off the pitch. The Villans are flying in the Premier League and also doing well in the Europa Conference League.

They also did amazingly well in the summer transfer market and are following that up with three top talents in the January transfer window.

Gauci may not be very well known on these shores, but in Australia, he’s a very highly rated talent who has been tipped for a bright future.

Paramount+ analyst and former professional striker Daniel McBreen said last year, as per A Leagues: “He’s definitely going to be on the radar (of the Australia national team for the 2026 World Cup)

“In the last World Cup, a lot of people were speaking about in the next cycle he would be part of that if he continued on the trend he is now. And he is continuing on that trend. He is performing well.

“All of the elements of his game – you’re not looking and thinking he is weak here.

“He is good with the ball at his feet, he comes for crosses, he is strong using his height, his reflex saves are phenomenal – that first save down to his right was fantastic and he added to that in the second half.”

All in all, Gauci looks like a great talent for the future. Credit to Aston Villa for scouting him and let’s hope he goes on to fulfil his potential.
