Aston Villa have reportedly submitted an official bid for Middlesbrough attacker Morgan Rogers.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who took to X on Thursday night with a transfer update on the 21-year-old.

The transfer insider says Rogers is a top target for Unai Emery in the January transfer window.

In addition, the player is apparently “excited” by the opportunity of joining Villa, who are flying high in the Premier League.

Rogers has been impressing for Boro under Michael Carrick, with 31 appearances, six goals and eight assists this term.

The versatile attacking talent began his career at West Bromwich Albion but joined Manchester City in the summer of 2019.

Rogers took in loan spells at Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool before making a permanent switch to Middlesbrough last summer.

He has represented England up to Under-20 level and looks set for a bright future in the game.

Carrick sung his praises late last year, telling Teesside Live: “He creates, he’s dangerous. He’s a huge talent. He’s fantastic to work with.

“He wants to learn and get better all the time and is desperate to give what he can for the team, which is brilliant. He’s got a terrific attitude for the game and is showing his quality.

“He’s scored some big goals for us, big goals in the cup and the goal against Birmingham here. He’s scored some big goals. He is very creative.

“You can see he’s growing here, he’s at home here and belongs here and you can see him growing all the time.”

Meanwhile, Villa have enjoyed a superb first half of the season, sitting third in the Premier League table, and will fancy their chances of a top-four finish.

In addition, Unai Emery’s charges are in the latter stages of the Europa Conference League and in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

There’s certainly scope for Villa to bolster their ranks and bring in more players to aid their pursuit of silverware this season, and it looks as though Rogers could be on his way to B6.
