Aston Villa have been busy on transfer deadline day, officially getting two signings over the line in Morgan Rogers and Lino Sousa.

Now, the third player that was expected to link up with the Villans before the January transfer deadline has signed the contract at B6, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer insider took to X at 9:18pm on Thursday night to claim that Australia goalkeeper Joe Gauci had “just signed” the contract as a Villa player.

Gauci, who joins from Adelaide United, had apparently put pen to paper on a deal until the summer of 2028, with Villa paying the Australian club around £1.3million plus add-ons.

Aston Villa set to sign ‘strong’ goalkeeper Joe Gauci

Gauci may not be very well known in the UK at this moment in time, but in Australia, he’s a very highly rated talent who has been tipped for a bright future.

The 23-year-old has made 76 appearances for Adelaide United and has already won his maiden Socceroos cap, making his debut against Ecuador in March 2023.

Paramount+ analyst and former professional striker Daniel McBreen said last year, as per A Leagues: “He’s definitely going to be on the radar (of the Australia national team for the 2026 World Cup)

“In the last World Cup, a lot of people were speaking about in the next cycle he would be part of that if he continued on the trend he is now. And he is continuing on that trend. He is performing well.

“All of the elements of his game – you’re not looking and thinking he is weak here.

“He is good with the ball at his feet, he comes for crosses, he is strong using his height, his reflex saves are phenomenal – that first save down to his right was fantastic and he added to that in the second half.”

Gauci looks like a top talent, and Villa have done well to scout him and bring him to Villa Park. Hopefully it won’t be long before the Villans announce him, and then it’ll be good to see how he develops at B6.
