Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal would happily sign £53m player in January

Arsenal may well be looking to sign a new midfielder in January.

The Kai Havertz experiment is failing in front of our very eyes, Thomas Partey is being hampered by injuries, and Declan Rice needs that perfect partner to fully unlock the potential of this young team.

Douglas Luiz has been touted as a potential option for the Gunners, but according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, there’s another young midfielder that Arsenal are big fans of.

Indeed, according to Romano, Martin Zubimendi is a player that Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are big on, but, sadly, the £53m man isn’t angling for a move at the moment as he’s excited to take Real Sociedad into the Champions League knockout stages.

Arsenal like Zubimendi

Romano shared what he knows about the midfielder.

“Arsenal feel a bit alert in terms of midfielders and from what I’m hearing they’re really exploring the midfielders market. There are some players they appreciate. A lot of rumours about Zubimendi, it’s true that people at Arsenal really like Zubimendi and think he could be perfect, Mikel Arteta really appreciates him, but from what I’m hearing, the player is very happy at Real Sociedad and he’s very happy with the opportunity to play in the last 16 of the Champions League,” Romano said.

Difficult

Arsenal may be big fans of Zubimendi, but it’s going to be hard for the Gunners to get this deal over the line.

Zubimendi is very happy at Real Sociedad, and players don’t leave that club prematurely.

Indeed, much like their neighbours, Athletic Bilbao, there’s an element of Basque pride attached to playing for Real Sociedad, and as a local lad, Zubimendi won’t hang them out to dry halfway through a season.

Perhaps this one could be revisited in the summer, but, for now, this deal may have to be put on ice.
