Fabrizio Romano says £30m Tottenham target is ‘one of the most underrated midfielders around’

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a player who Fabrizio Romano has now described as “one of the most underrated midfielders around”.

There have been many reports in recent months claiming Spurs are in pursuit of Chelsea star Conor Gallagher.

Indeed, Romano himself claimed in February that “the interest from Tottenham remains” in the England international.

However, the transfer insider said “there are also other clubs interested in Conor Gallagher, so it would be an open market for him.”

Much depends on whether Chelsea decide to offer the 24-year-old a new contract. His current deal runs out next year.

Admittedly, speculation linking Tottenham and Gallagher hasn’t been universally welcomed by the Spurs fanbase.

For instance, Tottenham fan Expressions spoke to Romano on JD Football and jokingly told the transfer insider that he’d unfollow or even block him if he said Spurs were after Gallagher.

Romano replied by saying the Chelsea man is “one of the most underrated midfielders around”.

Expressions also joked he would walk off if Romano suggested Tottenham were thinking of buying Timo Werner, to which the Italian said: “There is a possibility.”

Conor Gallagher a good shout for Tottenham – opinion

Although Gallagher to Tottenham seems to be a bit of a fanbase-splitting proposition, there’s no denying he is certainly Premier League quality and would be a good shout for Spurs.

At just 24 years of age, he’s already captained Chelsea and is featuring often for England. He’s still nowhere near his prime and Postecoglou would no doubt take him to the next level.

He is superb with the ball at his feet, can have a real impact in the final third and has shown he can do the dirty work in the middle of the park too.

Gallagher may not even be that expensive for Tottenham. GiveMeSport recently claimed that Chelsea insiders think they won’t receive any offers over £30million for him.

Let’s see what happens in the coming months. If the Blues don’t offer him a new contract, surely there will be a big race for his services, and Spurs will probably fancy their chances of winning.
