Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah in recent weeks.

In December, Spurs made contact with Chalobah‘s representatives over a potential deal, according to TEAMtalk.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the reported Tottenham target which suggests there might not be as much competition.

The transfer insider took to X to claim that, despite recent reports, Chalobah is no longer a target for Bayern Munich, as things stand.

The Champions League giants wanted Chalobah in August. However, there are now different clubs in the race for the 24-year-old, according to Romano.

Trevoh Chalobah a good player but Tottenham need someone who can hit the ground running – TBR View

On the surface, Chalobah seems like a good shout for Tottenham.

The £22million-rated defender is talented, young, and has extensive Premier League and Champions League experience.

Chalobah is also blessed with outstanding speed. In 2022, he told UEFA.com: “My highest would be probably 34km/h.”

However, the 24-year-old has not featured at all this term. That said, he is nearing a return to full fitness after a hamstring problem that has kept him out since August.

Considering Chalobah has not played at all this season, he’d need some time to properly back get up to speed in terms of his full match fitness and sharpness.

Tottenham ideally need someone who can come through the doors at Hotspur Way and pretty much go straight into the squad, amid injuries to the likes of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

With that in mind, Spurs might be better off looking elsewhere. Let’s see what happens with regards to Genoa’s Radu Dragusin, who they’re seemingly still in talks over.
