Aston Villa marksman Ollie Watkins has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League for a number of years now.

Ollie Watkins has earned plenty of admirers during his time in a Villa shirt.

Virgil van Dijk rates Watkins very highly, having played against the Englishman on several instances. Even Vincent Kompany loves Watkins, who is one of the greatest centre-backs of the modern era.

It looks like Arsenal are trying their best to tempt the Englishman away from Villa Park.

Jhon Duran is keen to join Al-Nassr but now another one of Unai Emery’s main men is attracting interest in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa reject £60 million Ollie Watkins bid from Arsenal

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Aston Villa have rejected an “official” £60 million bid made by Arsenal to sign Watkins.

The Italian journalist has also claimed that a key reason why Unai Emery’s side have turned down the bid is because they are unhappy that the Gunners have made the approach ahead of their important Champions League clash against Celtic.

Romano has revealed that currently, the Birmingham-based club are only in “active talks” with Al-Nassr over a potential deal involving Duran.

In 2021, Ian Wright suggested Arsenal to sign Watkins.

It seems like Mikel Arteta has taken the retired goalscorer’s advice, with Watkins even earning praise from Declan Rice in the past.

Mikel Arteta asked Arsenal to sign Ollie Watkins in 2023

Mikel Arteta reportedly requested Watkins’ signing in 2023.

It was claimed that Arteta’s view was that the Englishman would “complete” his squad.

At the time, the Spaniard was keen to bolster his side’s attack.

Perhaps Arsenal feel the same way about Watkins, which explains the rationale behind their bid.

Watkins has been labelled “incredible” and he would certainly be a statement signing for the North Londoners.
