Fabrizio Romano on whether Christian Eriksen wants Tottenham return

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has told the Last Word on Spurs podcast that Christian Eriksen would be open to a return to Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window – as he continues to struggle at Inter Milan.

Eriksen, who turns 29 in February, has failed to recapture his best form under Antonio Conte at Inter since joining the club for a figure believed to be worth £17million (Goal). He has clocked up 40 appearances for Inter so far.

But he has only managed four goals and three assists in that time, this season failing to have a hand in a single goal during his 14 games. Eriksen is believed to be earning a big wage at Inter, but Spurs have been linked.

According to TMW, Eriksen could join Tottenham on loan from Inter in January and Romano has stated that the 103-time Denmark international would welcome a return to Spurs – and even wanted to do so in the summer.

“Yes he is open, he would be happy to be back at Tottenham,” Romano said. “Also last summer, he had some opportunity. Even in July, he was open to coming back to Tottenham. It’s not up to him, it is up to the clubs.”

TBR’s view – Would Eriksen be a wise move for Tottenham?

Eriksen, despite a tricky ending, is still adored by Tottenham fans and his return would surely delight the fanbase. But is he good enough? His form at Inter Milan has been worse than just below par.

Spurs boast a side that thrive off of hard work under Mourinho, which explains why Dele Alli struggles for game time and Tanguy Ndombele had to improve to break into the side. Eriksen is not renowned for his work off the ball.

His wages are enormous and Inter may look to secure a profit. But Eriksen would be ideal against a side that Tottenham should dominate – Fulham for example – when they need to find a winner.
