Fabrizio Romano offers update on Azzedine Ounahi to Leeds United

Leeds United face a crucial week in terms of transfers and a potential move for Azzedine Ounahi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ounahi is being linked with a big money move to Elland Road. The Moroccan was brilliant in the World Cup and is now in demand, with Angers keen to cash in if they can.

Reports this morning had suggested Leeds are now ahead of the rest after lodging a £22m bid for Ounahi. But according to Romano, nothing is set in stone yet, with the Whites having some decisions to make after splashing out on Georgino Rutter.

“Azzedine Ounahi deal. Leeds have to decide how to proceed with signings after spending big money on Georginio Rutter. The deal is not dead, but other clubs are also moving,” Romano said for CaughtOffside.

“The next week is expected to be key — as Napoli have offered €15m to Angers one week ago.”

Ounahi is seen as one of the top midfield talents within the range of what Leeds are willing to bid. His form for Morocco was excellent in Qatar. However, he is thought to favour a move to Naples, meaning Leeds might have work to do.

TBR’s View: Leeds should push for Ounahi

Leeds have a big decision to make in the coming weeks. Do they spend a bit more money and effectively guarantee Premier League survival. Or do they leave it as it is, and potentially go down or be involved a relegation battle.

Realistically, Leeds can’t be going too gung-ho. And there are reservations when it comes to Ounahi, given the level he’s played at so far.

But for Leeds, the riches the PL brings might be more important than holding back right now. If they can land Ounahi and another one or two, then they should be fine. From there, they can build and progress, with better players.
