Arsenal fans may well get their wish this weekend as it looks like they’re finally closing in on a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori.

The Gunners have been looking to sign Calafiori for the last few weeks but with no deal done, there’s been some nerves developing among some fans.

However, this weekend seems to have kicked things into gear, with Arsenal heading to the USA tomorrow for their pre-season tour.

Calafiori is thought to have told Bologna to let him sign for Arsenal to complete his dream, while David Ornstein reported earlier today how Arsenal wanted the Calafiori deal done quickly.

And now, with the hours ticking away over the weekend before that flight to America, Fabrizio Romano has now provided another update.

Arsenal edging ever closer to signing Riccardo Calafiori

Taking to X to provide an update on the situation with Calafiori and Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano has provided further clarity on proceedings.

And while it looks a tight fit to get the Italian signed before the flight to America tomorrow, it does look like Arsenal are inching towards getting the deal done.

The signing of Calafiori will bring an end to a saga that looked like being done quickly at one point before being dragged out by Bologna.

If Arsenal do land the defender, focus will then switch to adding to the final third.

Any move for Nico Williams would require Arsenal to make him their highest paid player, while there’s good news when it comes to Pedro Neto, who is apparently keen to join Arsenal over Spurs.

Of course, money is a touch tighter this summer and after PSR rules saw the likes of Everton and Forest punished last season, Arsenal are more wary this summer.

But with Calafiori wrapped up, it at least allows the Gunners to move on and sign others.
