Arsenal’s bright start to the 2024/25 campaign has now been interrupted by the latest international break.

Mikel Arteta now has the opportunity to look back on the opening seven games of the Premier League season which has the Gunners sat in third.

After two seasons of pushing Manchester City at the top of the table, Arsenal are now looking set for another title push this season.

The north London outfit are looking strong in the league having taken 17 points from their opening seven games as well as a solid start in Europe.

However, there may already be some questions surrounding the future of some of their players ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Jorginho’s Arsenal future

Arsenal may be on an upwards trajectory but their lack of silverware over recent years could well force some of their top players to consider their future.

One of those is William Saliba with Real Madrid reported having already contacted his agents ahead of next summer’s window.

But the France international may not be the only one who could be moving on from north London over the coming months.

Jorginho‘s Arsenal contract is up next summer which means the January window will be their final chance to bring in some money for the Italian midfielder.

However, Fabrizio Romano has told his Daily Briefing that the 32-year-old is only focused on the season ahead with the Gunners.

“I’m not aware of anything concrete at this stage – all I know is that Saliba is fully focused on Arsenal, while Arsenal obviously also consider Saliba as a key part of their project, nothing else,” he said.

“Some other Arsenal rumours have been circulating involving Jorginho. However, I can say that the situation is that Jorginho is only thinking about this season.”

“It’s an important season for Arsenal, I don’t think all these links for Jorgi, Saliba etc are genuine and are good for the club… it’s only the beginning of October, the season started just 50 days ago.

“Jorginho’s full focus is on present, on Arsenal, not on moving into coaching and not on making the move to Saudi.”

Jorginho’s role at Arsenal to be tested by Mikel Merino

After joining in the summer from Real Sociedad, Mikel Merino made his first appearance in the Premier League for the Gunners.

The midfielder was struggling from an injury when he arrived in north London which has kept him out of action ever since.

But Merino has now returned to the pitch last week against Paris Saint-Germain and then Southampton as Arteta’s options have been boosted.

What this means for Jorginho’s opportunities in the side will have to be seen with Merino expected to play a significant role after making the move from Sociedad over the summer.
