Nottingham Forest have been trying to get the signing of Ajax forward Chuba Akpom over the line on transfer deadline day.

Fabrizio Romano has been on the case, providing several updates on the Reds and their pursuit of the 28-year-old in the last few hours.

At 6:47pm, the transfer insider claimed that Forest made an official bid for a loan with buy option clause worth €16million (£13.6million).

Romano also reported that the buying clause would become an obligation to buy if the Reds manage to stay up in the Premier League.

However, Ajax reportedly rejected Forest’s approach and made a counter-offer that the City Ground side saw as “unacceptable”.

Romano subsequently provided an update on X at 8:26pm, claiming that the Reds were “now trying again” for Akpom, also reiterating that the player “wants” a move to Forest.

However, at 9:13pm, Romano provided another update on the social media platform, claiming the move was “definitely collapsing”, with Ajax holding firm.

Forest have been busy on transfer deadline day, landing Matz Sels, Gio Reyna and Rodrigo Ribeiro. Meanwhile, Orel Mangala has joined Lyon.

The Reds have definitely tried hard to get a deal for Akpom over the line, but with not long to go, they’re running out of time to do so.

Akpom helped Boro reach the Championship playoff semi-finals last term thanks to 28 goals and two assists from 38 league outings.

Ajax opted to sign him for around £10million last summer and he has registered nine goals from 20 outings for the Eredivisie side.
