Fabrizio Romano drops transfer update involving Newcastle star Kieran Trippier

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has been linked with a potential move to Bayern Munich in recent days.

However, the Magpies have been holding firm, and this afternoon, Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update which will no doubt go down well amongst Newcastle fans.

The transfer insider took to X to claim that the Trippier deal is currently off. “As of now”, talks between Newcastle and Bayern have ground to a halt.

Romano added that Newcastle – who rejected a £12.8million bid for Trippier on Wednesday have made it clear that the 33-year-old is not for sale.

On Tuesday, Luke Edwards of The Telegraph provided an update about Trippier’s stance about a prospective move to Bayern as of last weekend.

The journalist, writing on X, claimed that Bayern are trying a “big club flex” with a second bid that they knew Newcastle would reject.

This is apparently because Bayern hoped it would “unsettle player enough to push for move”.

Over the weekend, Trippier told Newcastle that he wants to stay, added Edwards.

Newcastle need to keep standing their ground for Kieran Trippier

Newcastle are absolutely right for standing their ground and refusing to let Bayern simply cherry-pick one of their key players.

Trippier has been absolutely crucial for the Magpies since becoming the first signing of the new era to make the move to St James’ Park.

The England international helped Newcastle stay up – ultimately quite comfortably – in 2021/22, before helping them finish in the top four last season.

Admittedly, he did suffer from a downturn in form earlier this season, but he was great in the Magpies’ meeting against Manchester City last time out.

Newcastle will no doubt be eager for the transfer window to slam shut and put an end to Bayern’s pursuit of one of the best full-backs in the country.
