Fabrizio Romano drops transfer update involving Arsenal and Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi in recent months.

For instance, Christian Falk recently told CaughtOffside that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been “talking to the player”.

This has led to Bayern Munich being “afraid of the Gunners and afraid that Mikel Arteta could take this player away.”

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided another update – also on CaughtOffside – involving Zubimendi that mentions Arsenal.

The transfer insider has reiterated that the 24-year-old is not planning to leave Sociedad this month, but it could be a “different” story in the summer.

Romano reckons Arsenal and Bayern will be in pursuit of Zubimendi, while Barcelona are also keen “if they have the money to invest in him”.

The Italian wrote: “Zubimendi is not planning to leave Real Sociedad in the winter transfer window.

“It could be different in the summer. I think Arsenal and Bayern will be there.

“He’s always been appreciated by people at Barcelona. But let’s see if Barca will go for Zubimendi and if they have the money to invest in him.

“I think these three clubs will be in the mix for Zubimendi, but I don’t see him leaving Real Sociedad with this big Champions League chance coming.”

Martin Zubimendi a great shout for Arsenal

Arsenal could certainly do with bolstering their midfield ranks further in the upcoming transfer windows.

Thomas Partey’s injury record is concerning, while the jury remains out on Fabio Vieira and Luton loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Zubimendi would be an outstanding acquisition for Arsenal. While the £53million man would be nigh-on impossible to sign in January, he’s a good shout for the summer.

The Gunners will no doubt continue to keep tabs on the player. Then there is a good chance we will get a lot more transfer speculation involving the Gunners and Zubimendi in the coming months.
