Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool made contact with Michael Edwards over the weekend.
Romano, writing on X, claimed that Liverpool owners FSG would like Edwards to be in charge of the restructure at the Premier League club.
However, the transfer insider reported that Edwards rejected the Liverpool proposal.
Apparently, he is not interested even in a more senior role at Anfield as of today.
Liverpool reportedly keen to bring Michael Edwards back to Anfield
Liverpool are set for a major overhaul in the summer in wake of Jurgen Klopp announcing his intention to step down at the end of the season.
As well as Klopp, his staff and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke are set to leave Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
The Daily Mail recently reported that ‘one of the growing theories’ among Liverpool insiders is that it would be an ‘ideal opportunity’ to tempt Michaels back at Anfield.
Edwards spent a total of 11 years at Liverpool, working as head of analytics before progressing to become Liverpool’s first-ever sporting director in 2016.
He oversaw some of the most important signings in the club’s history, including Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.

As per the Daily Mail, Edwards has since formed data consultancy Ludonautics, with Liverpool’s former director of research Ian Graham.
They are apparently ‘helping a Premier League club’ and have ‘formed an alliance with Bolton Wanderers in the past week’ too.
The report claims Liverpool are so keen on Edwards because knows the profile of players required to compete with Manchester City and is well connected to help find the right manager.
In addition, Liverpool would reportedly still look for a new sporting director to work alongside Edwards.
At this moment in time, it looks like a non-starter, but let’s see whether the Reds attempt another charm offensive ahead of one of the most crucial summers in their recent history.
