Fabrizio Romano says Steve Bruce is pencilled in to host Newcastle United’s press conference on Friday – with the owners working to find a new boss.

Newcastle’s players and staff are currently enjoying a day off from training, a scheduled break ahead of Sunday’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Bruce had been expected to leave the club earlier in the week, following the £305million takeover. However, he remains in his post until now, at least.

The Toon’s new owners have been linked with the likes of Antonio Conte, Steven Gerrard, Brendan Rodgers, Lucien Favre and plenty more.

But for now, it appears that Bruce will take Friday’s press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Tottenham. That is according to Romano.

The Italian journalist also states that Newcastle’s new owners are working to find a new boss. But that Bruce could well manage his 1000th game.

Bruce has been under intense pressure for the entire time he has been on Tyneside. Now, he is closer than ever to leaving the club.

The issue for the new owners is two-fold. Firstly, that it will cost Newcastle around £8m to get rid of Bruce – due to a clause inserted by Mike Ashley.

Secondly, the fact the takeover came about so quickly, has left Newcastle’s new owners somewhat underprepared and playing catch up.

The replacements are not in place, so to speak. So, fans will have to remain patient and put up with the idea that Bruce will be in the dugout.
