Marcelo Bielsa is technically out of contract at Leeds United. The Argentine gaffer is widely expected to remain at Elland Road, and has sat in the Leeds dugout during Tuesday and Wednesday matches. Now, Fabrizio Romano has replied to a fan when asked about the future of Leeds boss Bielsa.

Recently turning 66, Bielsa has is known to prefer to work on a 12-month rolling contract. Joining Leeds in 2018, Bielsa signed for an initial year with the option of a second season. Following promotion, Bielsa did not actually sign a new deal until days before the season opener against Liverpool.

Angus Kinnear, the Leeds CEO, recently claimed Bielsa had remained at Leeds to continue working throughout the summer. As part of his stay at Leeds, he has overseen the improvement of facilities at Thorp Arch. Now, responding to a fan, Romano states Bielsa will remain at Elland Road.

Leeds need to make Bielsa announcement soon, amid Romano claim

Leeds fans know the way in which Bielsa works. It means they are not worried by Bielsa failing to put pen to paper on a new contract as things stand. But Bielsa does need to sign a deal and that is because it stops speculation surrounding his future.

The fact a Leeds fan has had to ask Romano about Bielsa’s contract suggests there is still doubt. It also stops pundits such as Jamie O’Hara telling TalkSPORT he would love Bielsa at Tottenham. Bielsa will stay at Leeds, but the Whites need to make it official before the opener against Man United.
