According to Fabrizio Romano, Martin Ødegaard would love to re-join Arsenal this summer, having spent time on loan last season.

What’s the story?

Well, Arsenal are said to have made the 22-year-old their No.1 target this summer, with just over a couple of weeks remaining under deadline day.

The 30-cap Norway international made 14 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last term, scoring one goal while providing two assists.

Romano adds that Ødegaard has a great relationship with Mikel Arteta and also the club’s board members.

Now, the attacking midfielder is waiting for Arsenal to have a bid accepted by Real Madrid.

Ødegaard was left out of Real Madrid’s squad, and Carlo Ancelotti has not given him assurances that he will play regular football this season.

When a 16-year-old Ødegaard joined Real Madrid in 2015, many expected him to reach the pinnacle of world football.

He still might, but you would’ve expected him to be further along in his development at 22 than he is now.

Four loans away from the Santiago Bernabeu in six years will do that to a wonderkid’s progress, and it’s time Ødegaard found a new home.

At Arsenal, where Arteta seems to adore him, the Emirates Stadium could become that place.

The Gunners have a bright future ahead, with 19-year-old Bukayo Saka, 20-year-old Gabriel Martinelli and 21-year-old Emile Smith Rowe at the forefront of that.

Throw in Ødegaard at 22, and things are looking very exciting in north London with a youthful backline behind them as well.
