Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool have made contact over Vieira 2.0

Liverpool have made contact over Denis Zakaria, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds could potentially do with bolstering their midfield ranks next year.

Liverpool never replaced Georginio Wijnaldum, who left on a free transfer last summer.

Zakara is widely tipped to leave Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Therefore, the 25-year-old is likely to be highly sought after in the upcoming transfer windows.

Romano claimed on Tuesday that Zakaria has received “many approaches” in the last few weeks.

As well as Liverpool, the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona are reportedly eyeing the Switzerland ace.

Here is what Romano wrote on Twitter:

Arsenal, Everton and Leicester are also eyeing Zakaria, according to 90Min.

Could Liverpool land Vieira 2.0 on a free transfer?

Zakaria is a highly-rated midfielder who has already won 40 caps for Switzerland.

In addition, the 6ft 3in ace has clocked up an impressive 141 competitive appearances for Gladbach.

Zakaria’s style of play is similar to several top midfielders, including Patrick Vieira, Paul Pogba and Zinedine Zidane.

“I’ve been compared to Vieira and Pogba,” the Bundesliga website quotes Zakaria as saying a few years ago.

“Two more players I really respect and, in a way, see as role models.

“When I watch videos of them I think I’d like to play that way.”

Zakaria would be a great asset for Liverpool – he’s high-quality, young and experienced.

Although the Reds have done well this season despite replacing Wijnaldum, they must look to the future.

However, Liverpool certainly face tough competition for Zakaria’s services.
