Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool and Arsenal-linked free agent set to join Inter Milan, on a free transfer
Fabrizio Romano says AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu is about to make a surprise switch to Inter Milan on a free transfer. The Turkey international is a reported target for both Arsenal and Liverpool. But Romano claims Inter are about to win the race for his signature.
Calhanoglu, 27, is out of contract at AC Milan on June 30. That is, despite having a hand in 22 goals during 2020-21 for Milan. He scored nine goals and laid on 12 assists and that form has seen him jump onto the shortlists of numerous European heavyweights. Liverpool and Arsenal are two of those.
Italian website CalcioMercato claim Liverpool had opened to sign Calhanoglu while Sky Sport Italia also say Arsenal made an offer for the ex-Leverkusen and Hamburg ace. However, Romano claims both have missed out in pursuit of the playmaker – with Inter set to land the Turkish star.
Calhanoglu would have been excellent for Liverpool and Arsenal
But instead, the midfielder is making a shock move to Inter. It is a suprise given the rivalry between the two sides, but saying that, the likes of Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic have done so. On a free, he will be a brilliant signing for Inter. Surely, Premier League clubs should have worked harder.
The Turkish ace is one of the hottest properties on the market given his contract situation. He would have sparkled in English football. Instead, Premier League clubs will be left to rue their decision not to sign Calhanoglu – for nothing.
