Everton are in pole position in the race to sign Norwich City defender Max Aarons, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Well-respected journalist Romano has posted an update on his Twitter claiming that Everton lead the race for the 21-year-old’s signature ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

It is understood that the Toffees are in “advanced talks” for the England Under-21 international, who has been a key player this season for a Norwich team that have already secured automatic promotion from the Championship.

Romano claims negotiations are progressing for the right-back, and the Merseyside club hope to finalise a deal soon.

Aarons, who has played 127 first-team games for Norwich already at such a young age, looks like he could turn out being Carlo Ancelotti’s next signing at Goodison Park.

The all-action right-back was part of the Norwich team that were relegated last year from the Premier League, but he’s helped them get straight back to the top flight at the first attempt.

TBR’s View:

If there are people doubtful over whether or not Aarons could make an impact at Everton, they only need to look at Ben Godfrey.

23-year-old centre-back Godfrey has had a superb first season with Everton since joining from Norwich last summer, and he was once impressing at Carrow Road in the same defence as Aarons.

Despite the fact Everton’s club captain Seamus Coleman is still capable of delivering brilliant performances, it’s a smart idea to try bring in someone that can be his long-term successor at right-back.
