Arsenal will try to sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer insider, writing on CaughtOffside, feels Arsenal will try their luck for the Brazilian midfielder, even if it’ll be a “very difficult” mission for the Gunners.
Romano also likened Arsenal’s interest in Luiz to their previous pursuit of Moises Caicedo, who they tried to sign last January to no avail.
“Douglas Luiz keeps being linked strongly with Arsenal ahead of January, but I think it’s going to be a tough one,” Romano said.

“It reminds me of the Moises Caicedo situation last January transfer window when Arsenal really wanted Caicedo. They made multiple bids to sign him and then at the end it was not possible.”
He added: “I still think Arsenal will try to sign Douglas Luiz, even if it will be very difficult as Aston Villa don’t want to sell him.”
A tall order for Arsenal – TBR View
Luiz is a long-term target for Arsenal and it’s not surprising to hear that the Gunners could potentially test the waters again.
In the 2022 summer transfer window, The Guardian reported that the North Londoners failed with a deadline-day move for the 25-year-old.
And during the summer transfer window, journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport that Arsenal still want Luiz, saying it’s an “open secret”.
Earlier in November, TEAMtalk reported that Luiz has been valued at around £60million.
Already that’s a fairly high fee, but then you’ve got to look at whether Villa would be willing to do business mid-season.
Why would a club willingly risk derailing their season when they can just wait until the summer – if at all?
Besides, with Luiz’s contract running until 2026, Villa aren’t in any rush. It could be a very tall order for Arsenal.
