Aston Villa are edging ever closer to the signing of Arsenal talent Lino Sousa.

Over the course of the day, speculation emerged claiming the Villans were making good progress towards signing the Gunners academy star.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to claim that the deal involving Villa and Arsenal for Sousa is all-but done.

The transfer insider claims that Villa now “have Lino Sousa from Arsenal” and are set to loan him to Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

Romano added that talks between Villa and the Pilgrims have already taken place, and it’s up to the Villans now to decide whether to send him to Devon.

In addition, Sousa has now completed his medical at Villa. The likelihood is that it shouldn’t be long before we get the official announcements.

Aston Villa set to sign Arsenal prodigy Lino Sousa

Sousa is now set to return to the West Midlands after two years at Arsenal.

He originally joined the Gunners setup from West Bromwich Albion back in January 2022.

The talented left-footer made an immediate impact at age level for the Gunners, playing for both the Under-18s and the Under-21s.

This season, Sousa has made 14 appearances for Arsenal at youth level, also registering three goals in the process.

Sousa, who Arsenal youth team expert Jeorge Bird has called “hugely talented”, has been in and around the Gunners first team of late and has been seen in senior training sessions.

The Sun previously described the 19-year-old talent as Jordi Alba 2.0, saying he’s ‘in the mould’ of the Barcelona legend.

Sousa hasn’t made his Arsenal debut, but with his Plymouth loan, he’s set to cut his teeth in the Championship and perhaps we’ll see him play for Villa next term.

He’s an exciting signing for a Villans side that are not only impressing in the present, but are also clearly preparing for the future.

Who knows how far they can go this season and in the coming years.
