Cesc Fabregas is moving closer to the Chelsea exit door, towards a reunion with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry at Monaco, according to the Independent.
Fabregas has failed to impress Blues manager Maurizio Sarri that will apparently be announced in the coming days, as the Stamford Bridge club look to put together a squad that can maintain a top four challenge.
That could well open the door for a young English talent in Ruben Loftus-Cheek to get more gametime at the club, after a first part of the season when it has looked like he may need a loan deal in order to get the matches he needs to continue his development.
He spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, playing well enough to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad which of course did so well in the summer, and various reports claim that Roy Hodgson’s Eagles would be happy to have him back at Selhurst Park.
There will still be fierce competition for places at Chelsea if and when Fabregas moves on, but the Spaniard’s departure would be a major sign that Sarri trusts Loftus-Cheek and is prepared to give him a bigger role.
So while Palace may still reportedly harbour hopes that Loftus-Cheek will make a return to south London this month, Fabregas leaving the club would deal those aspirations a major blow.
