‘I have a plan’: Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira says he’s doing extra training to force his way into first XI

Arsenal’s new signing, Fabio Vieira, has been speaking to Sky Sports and revealed he’s trying to catch the eye of his boss, Mikel Arteta.

Vieira was one of the big money signings by Arsenal in the summer but as yet, the Portuguese player has yet to really make his mark at The Emirates. Despite starting every game in Europe, he has started just a single Premier League game – a game he scored in – against Bournemouth, and played just 134 minutes, according to Transfermarkt.

However, rather than sulk about things, Vieira has revealed he is working harder than ever. And that includes doing extra gym work to aide his training.

“It’s more physical. It’s different football. I have a plan for me to work on the gym, doing more physical stuff. Two times a week in the gym. In the last interview, I told three but it’s two times. My mistake,” Vieira told Sky Sports.

Of course, Arsenal haven’t exactly struggled without being able to call on Vieira so far. Sitting pretty at the top of the table, the Gunners also made it four wins from four in Europe, with Vieira a key player once more.

Vieira, though, will hope to produce the goods if he gets Premier League chances in the coming weeks.

TBR’s View: Vieira Will Need Patience At Arsenal

The 22-year-old touches on it in this interview but he is in a new country, in a new environment, and will simply need time to settle into things.

He has looked good when he’s featured as well, in fairness to him.

Vieira is clearly a player who can produce in the final third and if he can contribute in parts this season, that will be more than enough for Mikel Arteta. Patience is a virtue sometimes and we’ve seen with Granit Xhaka at Arsenal that sometimes, it just takes time for Arteta to get the best from players.
