Fabio Carvalho says player Chelsea let go in 2019 was even better than Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva is one of the most decorated players to ever play for Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender may not have forged most of his legacy in England, but make no mistake about it, he’s one of the greatest defenders to ever play in this league.

From AC Milan to PSG to Chelsea, Silva has been a world-class player for over 15 years now.

Silva is undoubtedly one of the best players of the modern era, and it’s fair to say that Chelsea have had a few bona fide legends in recent years.

On Hull City’s TikTok, Fabio Carvalho has been playing a game where he’s had to rank footballing legends, and he actually put a player Chelsea let go in 2019 ahead of Silva in his rankings.

Indeed, Carvalho ranked Silva as the sixth-best player on his list, just ahead of Gaizka Mendieta, while the Liverpool loanee put Cesc Fabregas just ahead of Silva.

This may be a controversial call, but, in our view, it’s the right call.

Silva and Fabregas are two absolute greats, but Fabregas’ legacy just about exceeds Silva’s.

Fabregas is a World Cup winner and was a part of one of the best club sides of all-time at Barcelona, and while Silva has won everything there is to win at club level in his own right, that international success does put Fabregas at that level above.

Both players will go down in history as two of the best we’ve seen, and while this is a tough one to call, just as Carvalho has, we’d give Fabregas the edge on this debate.

Fabregas was utterly brilliant at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, and he played a huge part in two title wins for the Blues during that era.

Chelsea fans have been very lucky to see both of these players at Stamford Bridge in recent years.
