Fabio Capello has told Sky Sports – as per The Mirror – that he believes Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland would be “ideal” for Liverpool this summer, as the talented teenager returned to action on Saturday with a goal.
Haaland, 19, has continued his stunning strike rate for Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga club in January from RedBull Salzburg. Having scored 28 goals in 22 games for Salzburg earlier this season, Dortmund spent £18million to sign him (Sun).
A move to a side in a much stronger league such as the German Bundesliga has not affected Haaland’s form. In 12 appearances, the Norwegian has netted a whopping 13 goals in 12 games for Dortmund – striking on Saturday in a 4-0 win over Schalke.
Former England manager Capello was working as a pundit for Sky Sports and discussing whether Haaland would be a good signing for Premier League clubs and the ex-Real Madrid claimed Haaland would be “ideal” for Liverpool.
TBR’s view – Is Capello right?
Haaland would improve any side and considering his current Dortmund release clause – which stands at £63million as per German newspaper Bild. However, Liverpool do not use a centre-forward.
Indeed, Roberto Firmino drops deep and both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah go beyond the Brazilian. Haaland, meanwhile, is a lot more like Divock Origi who is naturally a centre-forward, playing on the last man.
Though he would be a top signing for any club, Haaland would not fit in Liverpool’s style of play.
