'They are always together': Fabinho has picked up on who Darwin Nunez is always hanging around with at Liverpool
For Darwin Nunez, debuts don’t come much better than his one for Liverpool this weekend, as he scored to help the Reds beat Manchester City.
The Uruguayan striker nodded home in injury time to put the seal on a fantastic day for the Reds and give them the first bit of one-upmanship over their big rivals for the year. Of course, there is a long season ahead and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp won’t be letting his team rest on their laurels.
One man who will be key for Liverpool – and indeed helping new man Nunez settle – is experienced midfielder, Fabinho. A central figure under Klopp, Fabinho knows all too well what it takes to settle into life on Merseyside.
And speaking about Nunez, Fabinho has pointed out that it is fellow Brazilian, Roberto Firmino, who seems to be helping Nunez out when it comes to settling in.
“He is in a period of adaptation. We saw he is getting better. We are learning a little bit more about the way he plays. We know he is fast and strong and a proper number nine who will be in the box,” Fabinho told The Independent.
To be honest, we always want to play and always think we are ready to play in a new team and a new league and are ready for the intensity. But we learn from the players who play longer at Liverpool so it is important for him to learn with Bobby and Diogo. He has a really good relationship with Bobby, they are always together and I think Bobby gives him some tips so it will be important for him to learn from a player like him.”
TBR’s View: Nunez Wise To Learn From Firmino
And that is both on and off the pitch. Nunez can learn all about how to play and do well in Klopp’s system by listening to the ‘unbelievable‘ Firmino. But crucially, he can also learn about the city and what makes the Liverpool fans tick.
Nunez got a glimpse of that this weekend and if he can keep scoring goals, he’ll soon be loved and adored by the Anfield faithful.
