Fabinho is the solution to Liverpool’s current Trent Alexander-Arnold problem

The Brazilian international right-back would be a great step-in for Liverpool’s struggling youngster.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is clearly a top young talent. The 20-year-old has shown Liverpool and England fans that he is set for a big future in the game. However, he has played a lot of football for such a young talent and he looks burnt out at present. He put in perhaps his worst ever Liverpool performance as Red Star Belgrade shocked Jurgen Klopp’s men last night in the Champions League.

It seems it is time to give him a spell out of the team. Liverpool could use Joe Gomez in the role. The fellow young talent has had a great season so far and can operate in the role. However, that would take him away from centre-back where he has been sensational this term.

The obvious next choice is Nathaniel Clyne. Another England international. He has struggled to find form and playing time since recovering from a serious back injury.

But Liverpool actually have the Brazilian national team’s current right-back playing in their midfield.

Following in the footsteps of greats like Cafu, Carlos Alberto and Djalma Santos the current Brazil right-back is Fabinho.

Signed from Monaco for a reported £43.7 million this summer he arrived at Liverpool as a midfielder. However, he has played a lot of his career at right-back and would bring a certain physicality to the role Alexander-Arnold and Clyne certainly wouldn’t. Liverpool paid that big fee for a top midfielder, but no doubt his positional dexterity was also a reason why they were willing to cough up.

Liverpool have plenty of options. But Fabinho is one that should be given serious consideration as they look to shock Alexander-Arnold back into life.
