Fabinho has all the attributes to fill in at centre-back for Liverpool

Liverpool are facing something of a centre-back crisis. The Reds have lost Joe Gomez to a leg fracture and now a broken collarbone has seen Joel Matip ruled out. Dejan Lovren is set to return but Liverpool certainly look to be running low at the back.

However, one summer signing might be able to provide a helping hand.

Liverpool signed Fabinho in the summer from Monaco for a fee in the region of £43.7 million. Signed predominantly as a holding midfielder, his ability to also play at right-back was also a big factor in the transfer.

But surely he could adapt his skills to play at the heart of the defence. Physically, he shouldn’t have a problem. At 6ft 2ins the Brazilian is an imposing figure. He also has speed and strength in abundance, so could keep up with some of the Premier League’s best.

Liverpool snapped him up with the knowledge he can adapt to play in a number of positions. Centre-back was not one he has played before, but Jurgen Klopp will no doubt see he is capable of filling in at the heart of the Liverpool defence.

If Lovren is still struggling, then placing the summer signing alongside Virgil van Dijk might be a perfectly good solution for Liverpool and Klopp.
