Fabian Delph sends message to Leeds fans after Everton draw
Fabian Delph has sent a message to Leeds United supporters on Instagram after getting the chance to play at Elland Road with Everton on Saturday.
Delph, of course, started his career with the Whites. However, he was one of several incredible prospects forced to realise their potential elsewhere as Leeds languished in the Football League.
He did finally get the chance to play a Premier League game at his old stomping ground. But obviously, he was part of the Everton side looking to make it two wins from two.
Rafa Benitez’s side will probably be frustrated that they did not win. They took the lead twice. And they had two brilliant chances at 2-1 up.
However, Leeds battled their way to a point. And Marcelo Bielsa’s side did ask questions of the visitors in the final moments.
Delph was one of those tasked with helping the Toffees see out the game. He came on for Demarai Gray for the final 10 minutes.
He received a huge ovation from all corners of the ground as he entered the pitch. And he has taken to social media today to pay tribute to the Leeds fans who welcomed him back…
Leeds fans prove their value once again as Whites draw with Everton
There was always a sense of intrigue regarding what the return of fans would mean for Leeds.
Many have spoken about the incredible atmosphere that inevitably comes from a packed Elland Road.
But obviously, with Leeds’ risk-taking style, the supporters would be forgiven for getting frustrated sooner when things are not going to plan – particularly given their opening result of the season.
And yet, the reaction to Everton’s opening goal on Saturday was outstanding. And the fans threatened to power them on to a potential winner in those final stages.
A reminder was probably not needed. But the Leeds fans certainly proved their value once again.
