Goalkeeper: Brad Guzan (Middlesbrough)
Albeit he ended up on the losing side, Brad Guzan was one of the only figures helping keep Middlesbrough in the game against a far superior Manchester City. He was amongst the busiest goalkeepers over the four matches and made eight saves to keep his side in it, including a wonderful reaction save with his right foot to deflect a point-blank Sergio Aguero effort onto the post. For long periods he was the wall that kept City at bay, but with his teammates making little impact elsewhere, he could only thwart them for so long.
Centre-Back: Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur)
Composed and dangerous venturing down the right, Kieran Trippier was not only composed in his defensive duties but a menace when he was able to get forward against Millwall.
He capped off his performance with a wonderful assist for Son Heung-Min, who gratefully volleyed home to put the hosts 3-0 up.
Centre-Back: Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)
Despite not getting on the scoresheet on a fruitful day for Spurs, Dier was professional and solid as Millwall’s tricky attacking trio of Aiden O’Brien, Lee Gregory, and Steve Morison toiled in trying to find a way through a dominant Spurs rear-guard.
Dier was a part of the three-man defence that slammed the door on their League One opponents and preserved a clean-sheet in a game which may well have been a more tricky encounter otherwise following Kane’s withdrawal.
Centre-Back: Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)
Probably Spurs’ most impressive defender on the day, Vertonghen was a commanding presence in the air and on the ground and led by example as he captained the Spurs side to victory over the Lions.
Aiden O’Brien had no joy whatsoever against the Belgian, and he was just as effective in preventing Freddie Onyedinma from getting into the game after he replaced Steve Morison just before the hour. Impregnable at the back and composed in playing the ball out, Vertonghen was simply excellent.
