Coach: Mauricio Pochettino
Formation: 3-4-3
Granted Tottenham were at home against a side two divisions lower, but Millwall have been giant-killers this season and another upset may well have been on the cards after Harry Kane trudged off injured with just ten minutes on the clock. Pochettino, however, wouldn’t allow his team’s standards to drop. He made a bold call following Kane’s injury to introduce Christian Eriksen rather than Vincent Janssen, the only other striker on the bench, in order to shift Son Heung-min into the central position and deploy Eriksen out wide. The change paid dividends, with Eriksen finding the opening goal just after half an hour to shatter the Lions’ resistance, with Son bagging a hat-trick from the striker’s position.
The Argentine would throw Janssen into the fray later in the game, though, and that paid off after he added a sixth goal, his first in open play for the club. A match which threatened a possible upset and relieved Spurs of their talisman, turned into one of their finest performances under Pochettino, in which they put their lesser opponents to the sword. For ensuring the side maintained their professionalism and composure in such circumstances, Poch is worthy of recognition as our Coach of the Round.
