Newcastle’s record signing Joelinton has struggled at St James’ Park this season. He has scored just one Premier League goal in 22 appearances and has proven to be pretty ineffective. The 23-year-old has also provided just two assists in those games and is struggling to adapt to the English game.
However, he scored his second goal for the club yesterday in an FA Cup replay against League One side Rochdale. The Brazilian slid home a cross under the goalkeeper and looked a mixture of delighted and relieved when he celebrated.

Confidence is a crucial aspect of any player’s game, but it is particularly important for strikers. When a forward is in-form, it seems that everything goes for them. Similarly, when out of form, nothing falls and a goal drought quickly becomes a mental battle.
Magpies fans will be hoping that Joelinton’s first goal since October gives him the confidence he needs to finally get going at the club. Manager Steve Bruce has not yet signed a new striker this month and could keep the faith in the young striker for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle are currently sat 13th despite their lack of goals and are five points clear of the relegation spots. If Joelinton can have a decent second half of the season, they could be looking at a top-half finish.
Miguel Almiron has started to turn his good performances into goals and fans will be hoping that he can help regularly get the Brazilian on the goalscoring trail.
