Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Andre Onana has confirmed that his future beyond the end of this season lies away from Ajax, in conversation with Dutch outlet AD.
The Cameroon goalkeeper has been linked with Tottenham for a number of months, The Mirror (14 April, page 49) claiming that Spurs had made contact with him about a potential £25million move.
According to Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old has conceded just 158 goals in 178 appearances, and kept 74 clean sheets – a superb record considering his age and how keepers don’t tend to peak until their late twenties or early thirties.

Onana appears to be in high demand, however – the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with his services.
While it remains to be seen where he will be playing next season, it most likely won’t be for Ajax, based on his latest comments.
“It was five great years here, but now my time has come to take a step. We made that agreement last year,” the former Barca gem told AD.
“I don’t yet know what will happen, but my ambitions are clear.”
TBR View:
Onana has gone from strength to strength at Ajax since his arrival from Barca’s academy in 2015, becoming the Amsterdam giants’ number one and conceding less than a goal a game at senior level.
He is tall, agile, quick off his line, boasts great ability in starting attacks and solid command of his area – indeed, he was highly praised by Manuel Neuer last summer, the German icon saying he was Onana’s “biggest fan” (Goal.com).
Ajax CEO and goalkeeping legend Edwin van der Sar, meanwhile, described the player as “extremely valuable for the team” and a “great guy”, in conversation with Goal.com in 2018.
Onana’s price tag is reported to be £35million (Daily Mail) but it remains to be seen whether that value will hold up, given the financial uncertainty in the football industry caused by current events.
Nonetheless, Onana would certainly be a great addition to Jose Mourinho’s squad, vying with Hugo Lloris for the gloves and potentially replacing him further down the line.
