The Boot Room understands that Southampton are exploring the possibility of an exciting new midfield signing.
Southampton are in good form at the moment, and Russell Martin’s side look on track to secure a return back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Now TBR can exclusively reveal that the club is interested in signing 21-year-old Hungarian international, Mihaly Kata.
Kata plays his club football for MTK Budapest. Earlier this season, he was named the club captain for the side – becoming one of the youngest to ever wear the armband in the history of the Hungarian league.
Since then, he has also made his debut for the senior Hungarian national team. And so far he has three international appearances – all coming in Euro 2024 qualifying matches.

Southampton not the only club interested Mihaly Kata
As well as Southampton, The City Football Group, SC Heerenveen and several other German sides are also exploring the possibility of signing Kata.
Despite being only 21-years-old, he comes with a wealth of experience. Kata made his debut for MTK Budapest as a 16-year-old and has since made over 100 appearances for the club at first team level.
At international level, he has competed at the U21 European Championships and the U17 World Cup for Hungary over the last few years.
A few months ago his club manager, David Horvath described him as a player with ‘huge potential’ on the club’s official YouTube channel.
At this stage, it is not know whether Southampton can complete a deal for Kata in the January window.
It is understood the Hungarian is in no rush to make a decision on his future. But if a deal was to be made, Southampton are currently looking at a potential £1.5m transfer.
It’s understood the club are also still trying to pursue, Kata’s former MTK Budapest teammate, Bojan Miovski, who has been in great form for Aberdeen this season.
