In an exclusive TBR Football poll, 67% of Arsenal fans voted for Arsene Wenger to drop Petr Cech this weekend in favour of David Ospina, after the 34-year-old’s woeful form of late culminated in gifting Chelsea a third and final goal at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Ospina, who has been selected for cup competitions, including the Champions League, this season, has been impressive when given the opportunity, but is yet to make his bow in the Premier League with Wenger sticking true to his word and selecting the Czech as first choice in all 24 Premier League games to date, conceding 28 goals in the process.

Up against Hull City this weekend, who have only scored six league goals whilst on the road, the Gunners should be expected to keep a clean sheet even in spite of the recent upturn in the Tigers’ form under new boss Marcos Silva, but Wenger could have an opportunity to make a statement by dropping Cech in favour of his understudy.

Nearing the end of his career, questions will continue to be asked over whether Wenger will have to move in the transfer market to replace Cech, with Joe Hart said to be available in the summer amongst a range of potential targets. However, that may rely upon how Ospina fares if he is given the chance to shine in the remaining three months of the season.

Whilst it is clear that fans want to see Cech dropped, they will have to wait until Saturday morning to see if their wishes have been realised in the team selection for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off with David Ospina ready and waiting in the wings and bound to be chomping at the bit to prepare for the midweek Champions League clash with German side Bayern Munich, for which Ospina will almost certainly be selected.
