‘Exciting future ahead’: Some Leeds fans rally behind player who’ll be ‘one of the world’s best’

A number of Leeds United fans have rallied behind Illan Meslier following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Spurs.

The 20-year-old has made a name for himself since joining Leeds initially on loan before being signed permanently last summer, becoming the Premier League’s youngest first-choice goalkeeper.

Meslier, who reportedly cost the Whites £5million, has been entrusted with the first-team gloves at Elland Road and has played every minute of his side’s league campaign so far.

The young Frenchman didn’t have the best day at the office on Saturday, his misplaced pass to Harry Winks being played to Steven Bergwijn, who was fouled by Ezgjan Alioski in the box for a penalty.

Harry Kane made no mistake from the spot to open the scoring for Spurs, and later on, a Toby Alderweireld header was saved by Meslier but carried over the line as he went to ground.

Despite those errors, Meslier did also make several smart saves in the second half and late on to keep the score down.

During and after the game, some Whites fans were quick to get behind the former Lorient man on social media:
