A number of rival fans have taken to Twitter to praise Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso for his display in Spurs’ Champions League last-16 first-leg defeat on Wednesday night.
The Argentina international arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in August, initially on loan, and has made 16 Premier League appearances so far, plus a further seven in the Champions League and FA Cup (Transfermarkt).
Lo Celso initially made a slow start at Spurs, not helped by a layoff due to a hip injury, but has grown in importance as the season has progressed and has been one of the team’s standout performers over the past few weeks.
Against RB Leipzig, the 23-year-old put in a great individual display, linking up superbly with Steven Bergwijn on several occasions and generally being a bright spark going forward.
He was also one of Tottenham’s biggest threats in front of goal, with an effort on target on the hour mark and a free kick that had to be tipped onto the post 10 minutes later.
As a result, several rival supporters admitted on social media during and after Spurs’ defeat that the North Londoners have a gem on their hands:
Lo celso is rapid

In January, Lo Celso signed a contract at Spurs until the summer of 2025 following his permanent switch from Real Betis for a reported £28.8million fee (Transfermarkt), the transfer announced at the same time as Christian Eriksen’s departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
