‘Excellent stuff’, ‘Another Pennington?’ – Leeds fans divided on incoming defender Ben White

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on the signing of Ben White. According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, White is undergoing a medical on Sunday ahead of his loan move to Leeds.

Brighton and Hove Albion youngster White is a central defender so he will provide Marcelo Bielsa with another option in this department.

At times last season, Leeds were short of players to operate at centre-back. Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper are the only two recognised centre-backs so youngster Aapo Halme was promoted.

Bielsa also used Kalvin Phillips (central midfielder) and Gaetano Berardi (right-back) in central defence. But White should fix this problem.

The 21-year-old can also play at right-back so his versatility will be useful. And it is time for him to test himself at Championship level after spells with Newport County (League Two) and Peterborough United (League One).

White is expected to sign in the coming days, along with Jack Harrison and Helder Costa. Leeds fans are excited about the season ahead with business getting done early.

But White has divided opinion. Some believe he could be a shrewd capture while others feel his lack of Championship experience is a concern. Here are some tweets discussing this signing.
