Steffen Freund
Steffen Freund played for Tottenham between 1998 and 2003, after which he returned to Germany with Kaiserslautern but then returned to the Premier League on loan with Leicester City. Before he arrived in England, he helped Borussia Dortmund win the Champions League in the 1996/97 season. That success saw Freund and Dortmund knock Manchester United out in the semi-finals.
Freund made a return to Tottenham in 2012 when he was appointed assistant head coach but has since progressed from that point, with his current role being ‘International Technical Coordinator’. As a player, Freund was a defensive midfielder and became a fans’ favourite at Tottenham due to his notorious work ethic and commitment. Sticking to his task of breaking up the play rather than pushing on further up-field, Freund will forever be remembered by Tottenham fans for never scoring a goal for the club in his five seasons at White Hart Lane.
Freund; like Hamann and Huth, may not be regarded as some of the greatest players to grace the Premier League but they all demonstrated desire and commitment for whichever clubs they represented in the Premier League.
