Dietmar Hamann
Hamann can probably be regarded as the most successful German import to the Premier League. He represented represent three Premier League clubs between 1998 and 2009 after starting his career with Bayern Munich. Hamann made the move to England with Newcastle United after representing his country at the 1998 World Cup and famously scoring the final goal at the original Wembley Stadium.
After just one season in the North-East, Hamann moved to Premier League rivals Liverpool, where he spent the next seven seasons before moving to Manchester City in June 2006, going on to enjoy three campaigns in the blue half of that great footballing city. His ten years playing in the Premier League brought him 268 appearances and whilst he never won the Premier League title, Hamann helped Liverpool to numerous pieces of silverware.
The highpoint of his in career must be helping Liverpool to Champions League success in the 2004/05 season. He also helped Liverpool to success in the FA Cup and League Cup on two occasions each.
After his playing career finished, Hamann remained in England and enjoys regular media work in the UK, appearing regularly on BBC’s Match of the Day and on the TalkSport radio station where his opinions are well respected and sought after. He recently made a poignant suggestion regarding Daniel Sturridge’s ongoing battle with injury, and it is primarily because of his position within the game that his comments gained such traction.
