‘Exactly what I want’: Mikel Arteta in awe of Arsenal ace, loves his training and performances

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has waxed lyrical about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the Gunners captain penned a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Following months of speculation and uncertainty over his future, a three-year deal for Aubameyang – reportedly worth £350,000-a-week – was confirmed by Arsenal on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old’s contract was due to expire next summer, with the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan linked with his signature.

However, Arteta can now continue in his role safe in the knowledge that Aubameyang’s signature is with Arsenal until 2023.

“It’s a joy to work with him,” Arteta told Football London at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday night’s Premier League meeting with West Ham.

“I think we have a very transparent relationship, we were very clear with each other with what we were trying to do. How big a part of my plans for now and for the future.

“The way he trains, the way he behaves himself and the way he performs is exactly what I want. So, I want him to do that again, consistently in the next few years.”

Aubameyang is arguably Arsenal’s most important player and enjoyed another wonderful season in the red and white last time out, scoring 29 goals, winning the FA Cup and taking over the Gunners team captaincy.

This season he has picked up where he left off, with a goal in the Community Shield and another in the Premier League opener at Fulham, a resounding 3-0 victory for the Gunners.

The Arteta revolution continues – some great new players coming in, the talisman committing his future to the club, improved performances, victories and silverware, with much more surely to come.
