Ex-West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic scores four in record-breaking Austria victory

Former West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic produced an absolute masterclass for Austria against San Marino in a World Cup qualifier.

Ralf Rangnick’s side demolished San Marino on Thursday evening, with every single outfield Austrian player either scoring or assisting.

But it was former West Ham and Premier League cult hero Marko Arnautovic who stole the show. He grabbed a remarkable four goals and was easily named man of the match.

Even more impressively, he also became Austria’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Arnautovic achieved the milestone on Tuesday evening, scoring four times as Ralf Rangnick’s side breezed past San Marino.

He opened the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by his second just two minutes after half-time. In the 84th minute, he scored his 44th international goal, equaling Toni Polster’s record.

A few seconds later, he netted the final goal of the game, making it 10-0 and cementing himself as Austria’s sole top scorer ever on 45.

His fantastic display earned him a 9.9 rating from FOTMOB and was reflected in some truly incredible stats.

Where is Marko Arnautovic now?

Arnautovic is currently playing for Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) in Serbia’s SuperLiga. He joined the club in the summer of 2025 on a two-year contract.

The Austrian is now 36 years old but is still going strong, scoring twice and providing four assists in his first nine games.

Before moving to Red Star, he also had stints at Shanghai, where he joined from West Ham, Bologna, and Inter Milan.

It has been an illustrious career, and now he’s cemented legendary status with records for both the most caps and the most goals in Austria’s history.
