'If you look': Ex-Tottenham man says 'desperate' Arsenal could be left disappointed with summer signing
Arsenal fans might be buzzing this evening after the Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus, but a former Tottenham player has questioned if he’s the right man.
Jesus finally completed his move to the Gunners as they announced him earlier on today. The Brazilian leaves Manchester City with four Premier League titles in the bag and plenty of big game experience in the bag.
However, while those at Arsenal are delighted with the signing of Jesus, former Tottenham defender Stephen Kelly has actually suggested that they might just be getting an Alexandre Lacazette part two.
“If you look at the numbers, Jesus is actually very similar to Alexandre Lacazette, and he’s been playing in one of the most creative teams in the world,” Kelly told the BBC today.
“Can he go to Arsenal and score 20 goals this season? They have desperate need for someone, but I don’t think those goals are guaranteed.”
Jesus will be hoping to repay the faith shown in him by Arsenal. The Gunners have paid big money to get Mikel Arteta his main striking target. It’s widely expected that Jesus will play down the middle as a number nine for the Gunners.
TBR’s View: Kelly Does Have A Point About Jesus
Most people are delighted with the business here but you can always count on a Spurs angle to throw a spanner in the old works.
Kelly does make a good point though. Jesus has never been prolific for club or country and only time will tell if an extended run as a number nine will bring the goals Arsenal feel they’ve brought into the club.
Jesus, too, will be desperate to prove himself. He has done so well at City but always felt a bit on the periphery of things and now, the time is there for him to shine.
