Harry Redknapp has told The Sun that Mauricio Pochettino needs to consider dropping Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur’s side if he has no interest in staying beyond this season.

Eriksen’s future has been a talking point at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for some time now. As reported by The Sun, he is out of contract at the end of the season and is planning to leave on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old has been one of Tottenham’s key men for a number of years. But Redknapp insisted that Pochettino needs to think about leaving him out of his plans if his days with the club are numbered.

“I don’t see him signing a new contract now. I think he will let it run out and take that option of being a free agent next summer,” he told The Sun.

“So if he doesn’t want to stay and has made up his mind to go, I’d be looking to play someone else now.

“If he doesn’t want to be part of the team, it’s very difficult — you want people who want to play for the club — and it’s time to say right, OK.”

TBR View – Dropping Eriksen is a risk

There have only been glimpses of Eriksen at his best so far this season. And some Spurs fans would argue that many of those moments have only come while he is playing for Denmark.

So perhaps, it would be a sensible move to leave him out of the picture. However, Tottenham are some way off achieving what would be a respectable finish for this season. So freezing out Eriksen could still be a risk.

Obviously, they should have no problem pulling away from the bottom-half of the Premier League whether he is involved or not. But if their current form continues and Eriksen is watching from the sidelines, the fans may start to wonder whether he could make a difference.
